The La Brancia reservoir in the Piz Sorega – Col Alto ski region in the Val Badia is a demanding construction project that required our comprehensive expertise as general planners, construction managers, and safety coordinators. The goal of the project was to ensure a reliable water supply for artificial snowmaking, guaranteeing a timely season start.
The reservoir, with an initial capacity of 50,000 m³, was built at an altitude of 1,907 m above sea level. It incorporates a complex system of feed lines, intake structures, and sealing systems to ensure maximum efficiency and operational safety. The construction features a homogeneous earth dam with a maximum height of 9.92 m and a specialized sealing system to prevent leaks.
In a later construction phase (Variant 1), the dam crest was raised, increasing the total capacity to 86,000 m³. Our precise construction management ensured that all works were carried out efficiently and in compliance with the region’s strict environmental protection regulations.
The La Brancia reservoir exemplifies innovative engineering in high alpine terrain, sustainably enhancing snow reliability and the attractiveness of the ski area.
